Kiblawan Multipurpose Cooperative – History

Kooperatiba ng Kiblawan was organized last 1971 together with the 15 incorporators located at Municipality of Kiblawan, Davao del Sur. Mr. “Jun Alvarado Jr. was the one responsible in Social Action Center at Kiblawan Parish and act as a leader. They conducted Pre-membership educational Seminar and there are 46 members who attended also with the initial share of 1,007 pesos. Kiblawan Immaculate Concepcion Parish Convent was the first office of the Cooperative to operate, helping people in the community.

Growing years

During 1979 the cooperative extension and served 546,406.95 to the member of the cooperative in a way of loan(lending). Last 1981 the cooperative has construct building for Coop Women Weavers and organized together with the funding from Netherland embassy. In 1983, they received a grant from different linkages to buy a jeep and for the capital of the bakery. Through the initiative and hardworking officers as to the financial needs of the organization, they seek help from some agencies. With the help of MASS-SPECC and MISSEOR (Confederation of Catholic Bishops) in Germany, the cooperative able to build a new store.

Kooperatiba ng Kiblawan was registered at CDA in 1991 and have put-up Muscovado plant at Sto. Nino, Kiblawan, Davao del Sur. The year 2000 the cooperative assets are 4,472,236.31. The CDSMC/FC in Lanao, kidapawan, North Cotabato, MASS-SPECC continuously rendered their financial support in a form of a loan. DIMAVEMC, Coop NATCCO, and CBDS also extend their support. The year 2010 the Kooperaiba ng Kiblawan asset was P 21,697,408 and members of 2,043. The cooperative has acquired its own ATM MACHINE and its area of operation covers Davao del Sur and Davao Occidental.

Cooperative Existence

For 46 years of the cooperative existence, the coop able to render help to improve the income of members and non-members. Currently, the cooperative finance section has fifteen regular employees and 2 casuals serving with its regular members and associate members. The cooperative has converted from consumer store turned into BAKERY located at Tandang Sora St., Poblacion, Kiblawan, Davao del Sur. In addition, the cooperative has a 2nd branch bakery which is located at Rizal St., Poblacion, Kiblawan, Davao del Sur. And the 2 BAKERIES have 8 regular employees and 6 seasonal employees also. In the Muscovado Plantation and Production have 10 seasonal employees. In the Banana Plantation (Lakatan) have 8 seasonal employees.

As of now many of the cooperative member who avails credit line services have rendered it into a business they also generated employment.

Cooperative helps or addresses the problem of poverty reduction in the community by helping people through conducting pre-membership education to inspire them how to save in spite on their status of living. And also through cooperative services to the members, they are able to send their children and graduated from different prestigious schools and also the farmers have the chance cultivate or develop their lands to increase to their income.

Company Journey

Cooperative successfully sustained the hardships, challenges on different aspects especially on Muscovado Sugar production at Kiblawan, Davao del Sur. But the Cooperative already operated and still exist up to the present together with the helping hands who offered their property. Where the coop can construct muscovado sugar building together with the help of different agencies for the equipment’s and facilities.

Kooperatiba ng Kiblawan provides them a financial on land preparation, oil palm seedlings by means of Kenram Partnership. Seedlings came and fertilizers by way of loans and they will start to pay it after 3 years when the oil palm already generated income.

Cooperative has tied up with different agencies namely Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), Department of Agriculture (DA), Department of Agrarian Reform Program (DAR), Department of Science and Technology (DOST), Food and Drugs Administrators (FDA), MASS-SPECC, Davao del Sur Baker’s Cooperative (DASURBACO), and Provincial Credit Union (PCU).

Last October 10, 2016, the name of the cooperative Kooperatiba ng Kiblawan was changed into Kiblawan Multipurpose Cooperative today.
